"Seller is not authorized to upload other seller's sheet"

What you see

Upload Failed — Seller is not authorized to upload other seller's sheet

Your upload is refused outright. Nothing enters the feed.

What it means

It reads like an account permissions problem. It essentially never is.

Your workbook carries a sellerId in its Seller Information Sheet, and that value lives in a hidden part of the file called xl/sharedStrings.xml. If that value is missing or damaged, Ajio cannot tell whose sheet it is — so it assumes it is somebody else's.

The fix is to your file, not to your account. Contacting support about permissions will waste days.

The three ways your file loses its seller ID

1. A spreadsheet library re-saved the workbook

By far the most common cause, and the most invisible. Open an Ajio rejection workbook in a programming library such as Python's openpyxl, change one cell, save — and the library rebuilds the file from its own model, discarding parts it does not understand. sharedStrings.xml is one of them.

The file opens perfectly in Excel afterwards. It looks completely normal. Ajio rejects it.

Fix: edit the workbook without letting a library rewrite it. An .xlsx is a zip archive; copy every part across unchanged and modify only the sheet you need. If you are working by hand in Excel or LibreOffice instead, that is fine — the problem is specifically automated re-saving.

Check: the repaired file should contain exactly the same internal parts as the one you downloaded. If the count changed, something was dropped.

2. You cleared the feed ID and took the seller ID with it

To turn a downloaded rejection file into a new upload, you have to clear its feedId. The trap: feedId and sellerId are both UUIDs, and both sit in the same hidden part of the file. Clear "anything that looks like a UUID" and you delete your own seller ID along with it.

We did exactly this. The file uploaded, failed with this error, and the message pointed us at permissions rather than the field we had just wiped.

Fix: target the feedId cell specifically — find the row in the Seller Information Sheet whose label reads feedId and clear only the value next to it. Never match on the shape of the value.

Check: after editing, open the Seller Information Sheet and confirm sellerId still holds your ID. It takes five seconds and saves a failed upload.

3. You are genuinely using another seller's file

Rare, but worth ruling out. If a template was shared by an agency or another brand, it may carry their seller ID. Download a fresh template from your own portal account.

How to confirm which one you have

Open the failing workbook and look at the Seller Information Sheet:

  • sellerId blank → cause 1 or 2.
  • sellerId present but not your ID → cause 3.
  • sellerId present and correct → something else is wrong with the file structure. If the message changes to "Incorrect data in sheet" after you fix the seller ID, you are probably uploading a rejection export as a new feed, which Ajio does not accept.

How to avoid it next time

  • Verify sellerId on every file before uploading, not just ones you edited heavily. In one batch of seven files we edited, only one had the problem — but it was not the one we expected.
  • Never let an automated process re-save an Ajio workbook wholesale.
  • When clearing fields, target them by their label, never by the shape of their value.
